You can make your own pilau rice seasoning with this quick and easy recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients for the Pilau Rice seasoning

Pilau rice garnished with parsley served in a white bowl
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp mild chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp tumeric
  • 1/8 tsp asafoetida powder

Ingredients for Rice

  • 1 cup basmatti rice
  • 1 1/4 cup cold water

Instructions

Combine all the spice ingredients in a pestle and mortar and grind until completely combined. Alternatively, blend together in a dry blender.

Place the rice and cold water in a pan and add 1 tsp of the pilau rice seasoning. Cover the pan with a tight the lid and put on the heat. Allow the water to come to boil, reduce the heat the and allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the pan on the stove covered for another 15 minutes. Remove the lid and use a wooden spoon to mix the rice and seasoning together.

Your pilau rice is ready to be served.
